Lately I’ve been in love with the song Wild Child By Kenny Chesney, featuring Grace Potter. I don’t know if it’s because it’s June 1 and summer is here and it reminds me of how much I love to chase the sun. Or if it because the song sounds like it’s describing me.
“Looks like a royal in a thrift store dress, A kaleidoscope of colors in her mind, wild style, innocent but still a little wild child, a spirit that can’t be tamed, she goes where the wind suggests. A rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy. She loves to love. A touch of crazy hides behind her wild smile.”
That’s me. I find comfort in finding myself in music and being able to identify with the lyrics. It’s like when ever I get down on who I am and how I relate to the world, the lyrics of song remind me that , though I don’t always seem to make sense in the environments that I find myself in there are others out there just like me. This song talks about a a girl who is looked at as a rebel soul with a whole lot of gypsy. She’s a rebel because she doesn’t meet or accept societal pressures to conform to certain standards. She’s got a whole lot of gypsy because she takes her ques from the wind. For a lot of my life I’ve tried to be something other then this. I tried to fit in to more conventional standards and approaches but I’ve always found myself back here.
Often resisting, this predominate part of me, to stay out of trouble (or so I thought), and I guess because I always felt like a loan wolf. I remember when I met the quote: “All who wonder are not lost” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien like this song gave me a sense of belonging and direction in finding my place in the world and being more of myself in the world.
It’s not always clear to me where I’ll end up but honestly as I approach the second half of 2015, I’m done pushing myself to know. But instead will let the wind lead me. I’ll just embrace my rebel child wild child ways and see where my gypsy heart takes me. This may explain my love for music festivals! It’s like the whole world now looks and feels like me and people in music festivals are the best! Are you going to any this summer?
