#OnWednesdaysWeWearArt

Creativity takes courage. - Henri Matisse

I’m often moved by words, color, and pretty art  and nature. I love prints and color and I’m an avid self expressionist. So #OnWednesdayWeWearArt I feel like an explorer on an avid adventure of self exploration and discovery, with the opportunity to tell  stories.

An artist is an explorer. He[She] should begin by seeking himself [herself], seeing himself [herself] act. Then, not restraining itself. And above all, not being easily satisfied." - Henri Matisse

That not being easily satisfied is totally me. As I come to know my authentic self more and realize that I’m purely a creative/artist! So much of how I see and experience the world makes so much sense! It’s been so scary, trusting my authentic self, my inner voice, and allowing her to lead verses my adapted self. The self that wants to only do what’s pragmatic and most practical.

We all have these two sides. I was kinda stuck fitting into conservative and extremely structured environments. My clothes never fit the dress code and always screamed my point of view.

I once got “citationed" for sparkly shoes!! Uh, NO Dorthy in the work place! I kindly explained how I perceive sparkles to be neutrals like that of khakis, and all was forgiven. (or was it??!!)

Back to the point. I got in the habit of creating and making things in my free time and my clothing became my only constant source of “creating” #OnWednesdayWeWearArt reminded me of the intentionality in which I used my clothing during that time.

As I continue to live in to my authentic self I am getting back to what Matisse characterized as a “Good armchair” and getting excited about creating as a constant outlet and not something that I do on the side.

Moving into a new house has created a seemingly endless list of DIYs for me but as I have tackled them they have been amazing! Right now I am still organizing and unpacking my new workspace! You can look forward to what you’ve most requested My Life in DIY. I’m looking forward to that A LOT too!

I’m encouraged by this quote :

Art should be something like a good armchair in which to rest from physical fatigue - Henri Matisse

It reminds me to heavily and with gusto lean into who I am as a creative as an artist and rest in it. What I hope to also find in it is a place to connect with my inner voice constantly and with integrity.

"Creative people are curious, flexible, persistent and independent with a tremendous spirit of adventure and a love of play" - Henri Matisse

I admire and identify with people like Henri Matisse that recognized that there was a side of him that was more than the lawyer that he tried to be and decided to make a life of “play”. He decided not to live with the anxieties that the job brought and played in many art forms and rivaled that of Pabloa Picaso. Who would we all become if we followed the person inside the heart of us! Henri Matisse definitely followed his! AND so does MyfriendCourt! Check out her awesome inspired Matisse Look Next!!!

Art History Info about Henri Mattise:

"Henri Matisse is widely regarded as the greatest colorist of the twentieth century and as a rival to Pablo Picasso in the importance of his innovations. He emerged as a Post-Impressionist, and first achieved prominence as the leader of the French movement Fauvism. Although interested in Cubism, he rejected it, and instead sought to use color as the foundation for expressive, decorative, and often monumental paintings. As he once controversially wrote, he sought to create an art that would be "a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair." Still life and the nude remained favorite subjects throughout his career; North Africa was also an important inspiration, and, towards the end of his life, he made an important contribution to collage with a series of works using cut-out shapes of color. He is also highly regarded as a sculptor." Reference and Read more
